On April 30th, 2009, (Cult)ure magazine teamed up with Ecology Ottawa to host a post earth day extravaganza party, marked with electrifying bands, delicious cupcakes, raffle prizes, video installations, a wonderful DJ, and interactive video interviews. Also, did I mention you could take your photo hugging a tree? Check out how the event went down.

Sabrina Bowman, enviromental activist, encourages everyone to participate in this walk as it encourage dialogue and helps participants see their city and their neighbourhoods in a different light. The currently unfolding attempt to dismiss Professor Denis Rancourt from the University of Ottawa represents a precedent-setting case for academic freedom. It also helps highlight many of the problems with universities, particularly their undemocratic governance structures.

Another Christmas has passed, and as per usual, our societal obsession with shopping for new things has caused debt and the production of much unnecessary crap. As we reflect on this, it is important to recognize there are other ways to get the goods we need that don’t require us to spend money. Sabrina Bowman sees them as a punch in the face to consumerism.
