Dear Miss Smartypants,

This is driving me crazy: I recently watched a Bollywood movie, and the main song has been stuck in my head for days.  You can see the scene here:

I know that the hook (the dun-da-dunnnnn bit) is from an old song or maybe the theme of an old TV show, or something.  Please clear this up for me, so I can stop humming it.

And they shall know me by my dun-da-dunnnnn

Dear Dhan te nan,

I was thrown at first by the repetition and by director Vishal Bharadwaj claiming that "Dhan-te-nan" was some sort of catchphrase that he invented, but I found your answer. You were on the right track: the hook is from an old TV show. See/hear for yourself:

So, to recap, Get Smart and Bharadwaj sounds like he might be a dick. In other news, North American thrillers need more musical numbers.

And loving it,

Miss Smartypants
