You've had a great date out on the town, and, when you invited her back to your place afterwards, she accepted. Now, after a nightcap or two, she's finally slipped out of that little black dress and is standing before you wearing nothing but the sexiest thong you've ever seen. Everything is perfect, except for one thing: the silence. You need to put on some music, STAT, and it needs to be the right music.
What you need, my friend, is Mr. Gary Beals. A Dartmouth, Nova Scotia resident, Beals rocketed to stardom in the summer of 2003 thanks to a second place finish on the premier season of Canadian Idol - where he delivered soulful renditions of songs by the likes of Sarah McLachlan and Stevie Wonder. Beals' memorable performances caught the eye of manger/producer and Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex, who teamed the young singer with hit-makers Orin Isaacs and Marcus Kanethe. The next year saw the release of his debut self-titled album.
An active member of the Baptist Church, Beals combines R&B, soul, and gospel roots to create pop tunes that are for the most part a little too slow for the dance floor, but just right for the bedroom. He's also a socially conscious member of his community, who has spoken out against issues such as gun violence, so you and your hot date can get smooching without having to worry about offensive lyrics breaking the mood when the next track begins. The album's opener, "I Know You're Out There," sounds like its trying a little too hard to be a breakout pop single, but the album immediately hits its groovy mid-paced stride with the second song, "It's Killin' Me," and by the time the third track, "Jump Off" finishes, you (and that certain special someone) will be lost in the vibe. Lyrics like, "I love you and respect you / But if these words don't affect you / I'll change my ways / I'll try my best" from "Still Be Yours," will set a tone of affection and respect, even as Beals aids you in the seduction with his sultry voice. The Premier of Nova Scotia loves Beals, Canadian Idol fans love Beals, the Junos love Beals, the Independent Music Awards love Beals, but - most important of all - if you give The Rebirth of . . . a spin at just the right moment, you'll be the one getting all the lovin'.

The tunes you pick will require a strong backbeat, but it can't be too fast a beat. You'll want some sexy lyrics, but nothing misogynist or crass. You're going to need something not too slow, but not too fast; not too soft, but definatley not too hard. If you are going to get her out of that thong and into your bed, you're going to have to call up that unique blend of diverse musical elements that come together to form the perfect gettin'-it-on tunes.
This June Beals unleashed his follow-up, The Rebirth of..., an album with a range of R&B and pop tracks that speak to the talents of a man whose home-province Premier recently declared November 22 "Gary Beals Day."
