Call for Submissions: Bell Utility Box Murals - Hintonburg

The Hintonburg Community Association Arts Committee, Councillor Christine Leadman and Bell Canada have collaborated to offer an unique opportunity to artists to enhance their neighborhood. In an attempt to discourage the repeated graffiti tagging of the Bell Canada utility boxes, a pilot project has been launched seeking artists to paint murals on a select number of boxes. Similar projects have proven successful in other Canadian cities such as Edmonton, Toronto and Halifax.

For this pilot, 6 local Bell Canada utility boxes have been chosen. These boxes are in the following prominent locations:

Corner of Fairmont and Gladstone, "Side of 96 Fairmont"
Parkdale United Church, box is on Gladstone (at Parkdale)
Parkdale Park - "opposite 20 Hamilton Avenue"
Between Mac's Convenience Store and 1041 Wellington
Between 1153 Wellington and 1157 Wellington
Smirle and Wellington - "side of 1293 Wellington" - next to Petit Bill's Bistro

The Hintonburg Community Association, Councillor Christine Leadman and Bell Canada are seeking local Hintonburg QUAD artists (artists should either live or work in Hintonburg) interested in participating. A modest honorarium is being offered. Bell Canada will supply the speciality paint required. All other production costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Artists are encouraged to personally survey the specifications and locations of the utility boxes. In every case, applications should clearly state the utility box of choice and include:
Summary of mural (5 lines)
Clear and concise mural description (max 1 page)
Conceptual sketch
Artist Contact information
