The Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA) is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Intern in Communications to support the work of its Secretariat. A not-for-profit organization, the CCA is the national forum for the Canadian arts, culture and heritage sector. Governed by a Board partly elected by its membership, the CCA is managed by a National Director and a team of dedicated employees, which is complemented by freelance workers.

The Communications Intern will be responsible for the following activities:

o       Writing communiqués for members and the press on CCA activities;
o       Sending bulletins and communiqués;
o       Monitoring press coverage on priority issues and CCA activities, and preparing web statistics reports;
o       Contributing to the launch and management of a new website for the CCA and CCA’s social networking instruments, within the parameters of the Communications Strategic Plan;
o       Providing support in the development and implementation of communications plans related to CCA activities;
o       Attending staff meetings;
o       Contributing to the development of a strategy regarding the management of electronic archives for the CCA..
The Intern will be called upon to act as support for the CCA’s editorial team. He/she will also be responsible for doing an inventory of CCA’s current electronic archives, exploring ways of increasing them (in collaboration with National Archives Canada) and providing actionable suggestions.
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
•       Young professional issued from a diverse cultural community as defined by the Trillium Foundation;
•       University degree in communications, arts management or in a connected field;
•       Demonstrable interest in arts and culture;
•       Demonstrable capacities in research and synthesis;
•       Excellent abilities in oral and written communication in either French or English and a reasonable knowledge of the other official language;
•       Familiarity with social communication instruments like Twitter, Facebook etc.
•       Capacity to work on many files simultenously and to manage priorities;
•       Demonstrable capacity for team work.
Familiarity with public policy and the arts and cultural sector, as well as a demonstrable commitment to the values, visions and orientations of the CCA, will be considered an asset.
Location : Ottawa
Salary : $ 12 / hour, 35 hours/ week
Duration : May 1, 2010 to April  30, 2011 (12 months)
