The Public Art Program presents an Opportunity for Artists Request for proposals
Introduction
The City of Ottawa’s Public Art Program is calling on artists to submit proposals for groupings of aluminum banners to be fabricated and installed on pedestrian light poles by the City of Ottawa on Hazeldean Rd. The stretch of Hazeldean between Terry Fox Drive and Carp Road will be divided into three sections, with a total of 82 banners. Three artists or artist teams will be commissioned, one per section of this three-part commission. Artists will design the aluminum panels to be mounted to the pedestrian poles.
Up to eight artist/artist teams will be short-listed by the selection committee, short-listed artists will be required to refine their proposals and provide designs within the designated parameters of the banner form which will be provided in a Terms of Reference for the Design Development stage of this competition. The three artists or artist teams that are commissioned for this project will collaborate with the Public Art Program and a graphic designer who will transfer the artist designs into a CAD drawing that will be used to performance cut the aluminum template with precision.
*The transfer of the artist-designed panel will be done to as much accuracy as possible allowing for minute changes due to format transfer.
