The Public Art/Community Art Program presents an Opportunity for Artists Request for Proposals The City of Ottawa’s Public Art/Community Program is pleased to invite artists to apply to develop, design and implement a public art commission to be integrated into the Ottawa South Community Centre Renovation and Expansion. The commission is for original artwork that will involve community participation/engagement towards the final concept and/or creation of the artwork. Artist teams may also apply. The Ottawa South Community Centre is located at 260 Sunnyside Avenue just east of Bank Street. The Old Fire Hall is considered by many to be the heart of the neighbourhood providing many social and recreational programs and a place for people to gather and meet. The Ottawa South Community Centre Renovation and Expansion consists of a complete reconstruction of the existing fire hall and an addition to the side for a new community hall. Up to four artist/artist teams will be short-listed by the selection committee. Short-listed artists will be required to submit detailed designs as outlined in the Terms of Reference in the second phase of this competition. Eligibility The request for proposals is open to all artists/artist teams living within the 150-km radius of Ottawa. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Participants must be Canadian citizens, or have landed immigrant status. Budget The total budget for the project is: The commission budget must include all costs required to design, fabricate, and install the project. Deadline Submissions must be received by mail or by hand no later than Wednesday, August 4, 2010 3:30 p.m. (This is not a postmark deadline). Fax or e-mail submissions will not be accepted. Incomplete or late proposals will not be reviewed.
