RuPaul's Drag Race: You gotta be the whole package!

Last week, Mimi Imfurst became more annoying and was thankfully asked to sashay away from our televisions.

She Mail arrives and it is the Ms. Ru who is so divine telling the gals about their upcoming challenge. Apparently, a good queen is an informed queen. The mini challenge is to make a quick (very quick, 10 minutes) drag look for the red carpet. Two of the ladies go about creating fake vajays to flash to the camera. Is this really necessary? Basically, most of the ladies flash their bits, and grind on young studs. Stacy Layne appears to flash what is a real breast, and I am confused by it. Carmen Carrera and Stacy Layne are the top two and will be team captains for the next challenge, which is to shoot a morning show. Debbie Matenopoulos is a guest judge and will help the ladies find their way around a newsroom.

The teams are as follows:

Stacy Layne, Alexis, Shangela, Mariah and Yara Sofia

This team seems to have some issues early on. People don’t really trust Stacy Layne as the team leader. They get into the studio and Stacy Layne has trouble reading the Teleprompter (and/or speaking English). She and Alexis Mateo have basically no chemistry as lead anchors. Yara Sofia is the weather girl and she is a little bit lost in front of the green screen. Shangela knocks it out of the park as the gossip reporter. Mariah isn’t so good in her interview with….someone. They say it a few times, but I don’t know who she is.

Carmen, Manila, India Ferrah, Raja, and Delta Work

Team Carmen starts off and they are all pretty dull. Delta and Raja are super bland as the co-anchors, and India and Carmen are also coming off flat. Manila makes some weird choices and plays her interviewing character as a bad Asian stereotype. Ick. During the actual taping, some of the ladies do a little better, but India is really struggling as the weather girl.

Mainstage

Oh my hell. The guest judge this week is Chloë Sevingy. Having Nicki Henrickson judge drag is maybe the greatest move Ms. RuPaul has orchestrated so far. Don’t know who Nicki Henrickson is? Well you are missing out. Learn all about Big Love here!

RuPaul is back to looking fabulous on the Mainstage, I like the curly hair. I don’t think there is a particular theme to this Mainstage performance, but we can safely assume it is something about being fabulous.

Delta Work – Delta is working (great one, me) a powder blue ensemble that brings up references about The Little Mermaid.

Shangela – Shangela is wearing a multicolored gown and it looks like she is in front of a wind machine. Tyra Banks would tell us that this is a good thing.

Carmen Carrera – Carmen is back to her old ways and is wearing basically nothing on the Maintstage. She has taped newspaper to her body.

Mariah – Mariah has gone for a classic blue gown and she looks quite beautiful in it.

Alexis Mateo – Alexis is wearing a short silver dress with mirror bits on it. She looks cute, and works the runway with attitude.

India Ferrah – After last week’s fiasco, India has swung the other way with a conservative look. She looks nicer, for sure, but I don’t like her hair or make-up.

Stacy Layne Matthews – Stacy Layne is decked out in feathers, and she looks more polished than we have seen her in the past.

Manila Luzon – Manila is wearing a dress that is a pineapple. It is not so pretty.

Yara Sofia – Yara has gone for a dramatic look with a crazy hairpiece. The scary contacts actually work for this look.

Raja – Raja has gone big with a Marie Antoinette-inspired look. She has a wicked body suit and crazy 16th century hair. She makes it work, for sure.

Ok, I am giving up on trying to figure out who is in the “top” and who is in the “bottom” on this show. They all get such mixed critiques. We know that the best and the worst are made up of Manila, Shangela, Stacy Layne, Mariah and India. Manila is told that her interview segment was hilarious (which I didn’t find to be the case), and Shangela is told that she could do gossip radio as her job (which I agreed with, she was great). India is critiqued both for her lackluster performance as a weather girl and for her drab outfit. Mariah is told that her look is flawless, and gets mixed compliments and critiques of her interview. Stacy Layne is praised for her look but not for her crappy newscasting.

Manila Luzon is selected as the winner…I wouldn’t have picked her, but really none of the ladies did that well on this challenge.

India Ferrah and Stacy Layne will have to lip sync…….for their LIIIIIIIIVES! They are syncing to “Meeting in the Ladies Room” by Kylmaxx. Remember in the early episodes when they had music people had actually heard of? Bring back the Gaga! Do all the queens just know these songs? The lip syncing doesn’t get weird this week, and Stacy Layne is asked to shante, and stay. India is asked to sashay, away.

More Fabulousness

  • Watching Mr. RuPaul in a suit and hilarious man shoes today made me think that he would probably just prefer to be in heels full time. I say we let him.
  • A fun new quote from Ms. Ru, “If you can’t hate yourself, how the hell you gonna hate anyone else?” That one is more my speed.
  • I like watching the judges when they are watching the lip syncing—they just can’t help but dance in their seats.
  • Last word goes to Taryn: “You gotta be a whole package, not just a rack. Bitch can only go so far relying her cans”. Well, this is disappointing news for me.
