Fabio and Mike are very bitter about their loss to Antonia, and claim that her mussels were actually a French dish. Hating! There is no talk of Tre’s exit.

Quickfire: Create a Unique Fondue. 30 Minutes

Let me just warn you now: I freaking love cheese fondue. It is the food of the gods. I will be judging these “unique fondues” very harshly. God, I want fondue now. Their guest judge is themselves. They will have to pick the best and worst dishes. There is no more immunity.

Antonia: Smoked salmon on toast, fromage blanc and crème fraiche fondue. Padma particularly likes it, as does Carla.

Dale T.: Pho with beef, bread, charred ginger, lime, siracha and broth. Dale calls it his ‘phodue” which is funny.

Tiffany:  Apple ricotta fritter with hazelnut chocolate. Richard says it is rather pedestrian.

Richard: Bananas with amaretto ras el hanout, chili chocolate, liquid nitrogen. Richard calls this bananas in chocolate in a new way. I think Padma has a crush on Richard.

Fabio: Billini with caviar, crème fraiche fromage blanc and Bourdain wine. He thinks his billinis are too cold. Padma gives a hilarious face like, um this is average.

Angelo: Walnuts, endive with goat cheese fondue, and beet juice shooter. This one is super weird, and no one wants to shoot beet juice.

Mike: Spiced lamb kabob with mint and chili, feta cheese fondue.

Hootie (Carla): Beef Tenderloin and shrimp with coconut lime curry sauce. People seem to like it.

The cheftestants judge each other, and there is some worry that people will just vote for their friends.

Bottom 3: Fabio, Tiffany and Mike have the least liked dishes.

Top 3: Antonia, Dale and Angelo. Angelo is surprised to be on the top, and I am surprised he is there too.

Dale is the winner and gets a trip to Napa Valley.

The contestants head to 30 Rock and they are thrown onto the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show without knowing it. They play a game on the show which determines what they will have to cook for him on his birthday.

Elimination Challenge: Cook one of Jimmy Fallon’s favorite dishes for his birthday lunch.

Antonia: Beef Tongue

Antonia draws the short straw with beef tongue. Ew. It looks so gross when she is dealing with it. Her final dish is beef tongue, pumpernickel rye, caramelized onions and dill slaw. People love it. Ew.

Dale T.: Philly Cheese Steak

The cheese steak is not in Dale’s wheelhouse, but he is giving it his all. He comes up with a Philly cheeseteak on a pretzel roll, hot sauce, onions and cheddar cheese sauce. The sandwich was too salty.

Tiffany:  Chicken and Dumplings.

Tiffany is doing a southern take on the dish. Chicken, dumplings with poblano chilies, red peppers, cilantro and lime. Jimmy thinks it is too spicy, but no one else really comments on it.

Richard: Ramen

Richard wants to show that he doesn’t need a flame thrower to make good food. His dish is Ramen noodles, with seared pork belly, duck legs and duck egg. Unfortunately, Jimmy wanted to see the smoke machine and he is a little disappointed by the dish. The other eaters seem to enjoy it, though.

Fabio: Hamburger and French Fries

Fabio can’t even say hamburger, it comes out “hambooger”. Hilarious. His dish is just listed as hamburger, melted cheddar cheese sauce and fries. The burger gets really mixed reviews..Jimmy thinks it is good, but most of the other patrons and judges say it tastes like meatloaf and that the cheese sauce is gross.

Angelo: Pulled Pork

I don’t know why Angelo always comes off like a pill when he talks about his food, but he does. I want to like him, but it never happens. His dish is pulled pork with coffee, dill, allspice and chipotle rub, coleslaw. The eaters love the sandwich.

Mike: Sausage and Pepper sandwiches

Sausage, peppers, onions, garlic fennel and paprika. His dish looks like a big pile of goo. It doesn’t look appetizing. The sausage is well-liked as well.

Hootie (Carla): Chicken Pot Pie

Carla freaks out when she gets chicken pot pie because she has been thinking about chicken pot pie for a long time. Carla is running around like a chicken with its head cut off and it is hilarious. Her final dish is Chicken pot pie with carrots, celery, pea salt (WTF is that?) and herbs. People love it…Tom won’t even comment on it because he is too busy eating.

Judges’ Table

The winner tonight will get to be on Jimmy’s show as a cooking guest, which is very exciting for them.

Top 3: Carla, Antonia and Angelo are our winners today. Jimmy is blown away by all of their foods. Angelo is praised for making weird shit taste good together. Carla is being a bit of a loonybin today, and she is so excited about Chicken Pot Pie. Antonia is praised for making a difficult dish well. The three chefs start singing a weird song about Beef Tongue.

Carla takes the win! She gets a trip to Tokyo in addition to her spot of Late Night. This is her third win.

Bottom 3: Dale, Tiffany and Fabio. Tiffany’s dish lacked a good dumpling. Fabio’s dish wasn’t really a hamburger and the sauce was gross. Dale’s food was super salty. Jimmy feels bad giving these people criticisms because he is a fan of each of theirs. I think it could be either Tiffany or Fabio going home, but I would be surprised if it was Dale, simply because he has done better overall. We’ll see, though. I have been wrong before.

Fabio will be packing his knives and going. I am glad…I think he was among the least talented chefs left. He is a fun personality, and will be missed for that reason. He is a gentleman and a good sport about leaving, which is always nice to see.

Other Notes:

  • Noise of the Week: Two words. Beef. Tongue. Noise: made.
  • Shit I learned this week: I looked up ras el anout, simply because I am tired of not knowing what it is. It is a blend of spices commonly used in North Africa. Well, now I know.
  • Angelo makes it onto my shitlist this week for committing a seemingly innocuous error. He pronounces the word chipotle “chi-poll-te”. NO! This is not correct, world. The word is “chi-pot-le”, as it is spelled.
  • It seems like Dale is faltering lately, after a really strong start. We’ll see if he is able to pull it back together.
  • My girl Carla is on a freaking roll lately. She seems definitely destined for the finals, which is exciting.
  • I love having fewer contestants around...it is easier to look at each of their food more in-depth and I think we are really getting down to the best of the best here. Good times!
  • Next week? Sesame Street characters!
