MaryannLast night's episode, "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'" dispatched with Maryann so early on that I was nearly overwhelmed with dread and tension by the time that 10 o'clock rolled around. If there is one thing this show does well, it's a cliffhanger. How much bad could they set up for Season 3? Let's take a look.

Bill & Sookie (& Eric)

Though it takes Sookie a while to figure out Bill and Sam's plan for Maryann, they all end up okay (except for Maryann, but that's the point). The next day, a dress is delivered to Sookie (which, does this happen in real life? Clothes deliveries?) with a note about a night out. First I worried it was one of Eric's tricks, which would result in Eric finally drinking Sookie's blood. Turns out it really was Bill, but I only got more nervous when Bill told Jessica that he was taking Sookie to French restaurant to "celebrate." I think we all know what that means. Sure enough, Sookie broke down after Bill's proposal and ran off to the bathroom to collect herself. Too bad that by the time she realized her answer was yes, Bill had been abducted by Eric (or his minions). Because that V that Eric's having Lafayette sell? Is the Queen's own. And she's not too happy that Bill knows about it (not that we understand what she's up to at this point). For the first time ever, I hoped that Bill at least got the chance to sense how happy Sookie was when she came tearing out to accept his proposal. Will we find Bill down on Eric's work wheel in next season's opener? How many episodes will go by before Sookie asks for Eric's help in finding Bill? Oh, and did I mention that Eric's apparently in love with Sookie now? Good grief.

Jason & Andy

Having bonded over "saving" Bon Temps from Maryann, it seems there's a burgeoning friendship between the ex-jock and the detective. Especially when a grief-stricken Eggs's violent confession to Andy leads to Jason blowing the back of Eggs's head off. Andy covers up Jason's involvement, but was it for Jason's sake or to make Andy look like a hero in the eyes of the town?

Sam

After getting teary-eyed over a deer in the woods, Sam hunts down the adoptive family that abandoned him 15 years ago looking for a clue to find his biological parents. In this world, shifting is hereditary. Mrs. Merlotte refuses, saying she promised and that his parents are "bad people" (unlike those who pack up and run while their 15 year old son is at school?), but Mr. Merlotte gives up the goods from his death bed. Just how bad could these people going to turn out to be? Can we get Sam Trammell an Emmy already?

Jessica & Hoyt

Bon Temps' sweetest couple hit a rough patch last episode, with Jessica biting Maxine and Hoyt announcing he should have listened when Vampire Bill warned him about her. Hoyt comes around to the fact that he's been an idiot, but it might be too late. Jessica's up in some trucker's cab, promising sex and then biting the shit out of him. How bad is her killing spree going to get before her maker comes home?

Tara and the rest of Bon Temps

The town seems more than happy to go into complete denial about anything they may have gone down under Maryann's influence. They'll settle for trading rumours instead. Tara, on the other hand, remembers at least some of it,  and there's going to be hell to pay for Eggs's death. She's been in need of some serious therapy since the day we met her. Somehow, I doubt she'll get it in season 3.
