Dist: Warner Music Canada

Already celebrated as a discoverer and interpreter of other artists' songs, 12-time Grammy® Award-winner Emmylou Harris has, in the last decade, become admired as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. On Hard Bargain, her third Nonesuch disc, she offers 11 original songs - three of them co-written with Grammy® and Oscar-winning composer Will Jennings - that touch on the autobiographical while reaching for the universal. She pays tribute to lost friends like her legendary mentor Gram Parsons ("The Road") and her frequent collaborator, the late Kate McGarrigle ("Darlin' Kate"), and also finds poignancy and fresh meaning in events both historical and personal.

Having grown up in Newfoundland and spending nearly 18 years touring with the band, it’s not difficult to hear the musical and maritime influences on songs like ―Rather Be a Sailor‖ and the title track. Drawing inspiration from the road, family, home, love and longing, Son of a Sailor provides the listener with a collection of first person narratives.

Dist: Warner Music Canada

Despite being young by conventional standards, only just out of high school, Texas In July has already garnered an impressive following in the hardcore world. Their first album in 2009 sold over 3,000 copies from touring and world of mouth alone, and One Reality, their Equal Vision Records debut, is hotly anticipated.

MIRACLE FORTRESS
Was I The Wave?

www.miraclefortress.com
Dist: EMI Music Canada

Was I the Wave? is the long-awaited follow-up to Miracle Fortress’s debut, Five Roses. The Polaris Prize shortlisted album was a rapidly embraced collection of summery pop with a fuzzy twist, a kind of 60s homage draped over early 90s shoegaze. Though it will no doubt be labeled by some as a radical departure from Five Roses, you could argue that Was I the Wave? Is also somehow a logical extension of this approach; Van Pelt digests 80s synths and club sounds filters it through a full spectrum of electronic touchstones from the last two decades.

ROBERT JOHNSON
The Centennial Collection

Dist: Sony Music Canada

One hundred years ago, a child was born in Mississippi – a poor, African- American boy who would grow up, learn to sing and play the blues, and eventually achieve worldwide renown. In the decades after his death, he has become known as the King of the Delta Blues Singers, his music expanding in influence to the point that rock stars of the greatest magnitude – the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers – all sing his praise and have recorded his songs. That child was Robert Johnson.

The Centennial Collection is an update of the Grammy-winning, 2-CD box set that caused a remarkable media sensation and sold over a million copies when released in 1990. The discs will again include all 42 of Johnson’s recorded tracks (including alternate takes) remastered using technological advances of the past twenty years. In addition, new essays, photographs, information and testimonials from various music legends will be included in the accompanying booklet.
