Vente de feu (Quebec city)
Martin Michaud: clarinet
Francis Arguin: guitar
Jérémie Renaud-Tremblay: dryums

Vente de feu is a Quebec trio of self-taught musicians. The trio doesn’t so much compose its pieces as it patches them together, constructing and deconstructing sound landscapes which never take definitive form. Always raw, at times naïve and at others pseudo-learned, Vente de feu’s sound blends the freedom of improvisation, the energy of free jazz and the scrappy sound of no wave.
le trio Virgule (Gatineau)
François Gravel: piano
Linsey Wellman: sax
Philippe Charbonneau: acoustic bass
Olivier Fairfield: drums

The trio Virgule is a musical group which adopts free improvisation as compositional material, seeking to renew musical language at the same time as it is draws on a base of modern jazz. The group uses the typical instruments of classic jazz and draws its originality from its sound explorations, made up of sometimes ambiguous textures and rhythms that might be described as popular. A rhythmic structure that is at times regular and at others chaotic, joined with harmonic freedom, gives the Virgule trio a sound envelope which may leave the listener perplexed, confused and even offended. The Virgule trio does not please its audience; it prepares it for any number of surprises.
