February 20th – This Way of Life
(2010, dir Thomas Burstyn, New Zealand)
Filmed in the stunning beauty of New Zealand's rugged Ruahine Mountains by veteran cinematographer and ex-Montrealer Thomas Burstyn, this documentary follows the unusual family of Peter Karena and his wife, Colleen, as they raise their half-wild brood of six kids, trying to eke out a different kind of life for themselves. Peter can tame a wild horse, or field dress a deer, but he can't seem to find a home for his family amidst an escalating struggle with his own father. Shortlisted for the Best Documentary Oscar.
Café Molo (upstairs), 745 Riverside Dr., Wakefield (corner of River Road and Valley Drive). Sunday screenings 5 pm & 7:30 pm.

PHENOMENA Curator's Talk, Sunday Feb. 20, 3 p.m.
Cube Gallery invites you to take part in a discussion about Phenomena: a group show exploring the climatological, astronomical and geological events wrought by weather, acts of nature and feats of the gods.

Curator Don Monet will speak about the impetus behind building this show, while several of the artists will also be in attendance to discuss what inspired them to interpret Phenomena through their work. So far we have booked Andrew O'Malley and Reid McLachlan.

Eight artists working on the curated theme of Phenomena. Phenomena is a group show exploring the climatological, astronomical and geological events that can leave us awestruck, dumbfounded or sometimes cowering in our beds.  Don't miss this inspiring show by eight artists as they interpret and reflect on the beauty of those divine occurrences whether they are bolts of lightning, shooting stars or startling fissures in the terra firma beneath our feet.

Featuring:

Aili Kurtis, Andrew O'Malley, Paul Schibli,

Guy Lavigueur, Jennifer Gibbs, Reid MacLachlan,

John R.G. Roth, Tony Broderick
