'LABOURS OF LOVE' - A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN IN ART
This remarkable exhibition of paintings by Adrian Baker, with guest artists Karen Bailey, Heidi Conrod, Rosemary Leach, Katherine McNenly and Chandler Swain, is a fundraiser for The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood. Maureen McTeer, Canadian representative of the WRA, will be in attendance at the opening reception to share refreshments and information about the organization.
This one-weekend exhibition by these well-known Ottawa artists is a must-see, organized in solidarity with women everywhere, especially those who suffer needlessly. Adrian Baker's powerful images of intimate maternal experiences and timeless domestic scenes "evoke conflicting feelings of strength, anguish, vulnerability, spirituality, and love" (pictured: "Monday Monring")

613-321-0101,
Exhibition hours: Friday, Sept. 11 - opening reception, 6pm - 9m
Saturday, Sept. 12 - 10am - 5:30pm

Saturday

On Saturday, September, 12, 2009, the Ottawa theatre community is going to get JUICED! Theatre artists Andy Massingham, Peter Ryan, and Alix Sideris have joined forces to create Guerilla Heart Juice, an exciting new physical theatre training company that will operate out of a beautiful studio in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Workshops in movement, dance, mask and clown will be led on an ongoing basis. "Brash, daring, innovative...and that's only the beginning!" Come celebrate with Alix, Peter and Andy as they open an exciting new chapter in the arts and culture scene in Ottawa. Join us on Saturday, September 12 at Guerilla Heart Juice's new home at 111A Rideau Street, 3rd floor, in the heart of the Byward Market, 7:00-9:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday

Discover the latest works of local artists and artisans; learn a bit of local history; pick up accents for your garden and treat yourself to homemade baking.  You can do all this in one weekend at the 13th Annual Discovery Tour in North Gower/Kars on September 12 and 13, from 10 to 5. Brochure/map at www.northgower/kars.ca. The brochure's hand symbol indicates artists and artisans who will be demonstrating their work. Donations to the North Gower Food Bank can be made at several stops. (For information Ann Gruchy: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
