Rupaul’s Drag Race Recap: You gotta be memorable!

Posted by: Lauren

Boldly Tuck Where No Man Has Tucked Before

Welcome to week two! I get very excited when the opening credits role on this show because I know I am in for some zany, yet fabulous times. The ladies dwell on Venus D-lite’s exit and people mostly react by having it set in that the competition is on. The first shemail of the day comes in, and a gorgeous lady Ru tells us that the girls will have to “boldly tuck where no man has tucked before”. Immediately following this, the man Rupaul comes into the room and it is jarring, as always. The ladies are asked to pair up into teams and will have to communicate psychically to match answers about their partners clothing (that they can’t see).

Raja and Delta: I think these two are friends  from before because Raja tells us that Delta knows all about her (including how many cab drivers she has slept with). They get 1 out of three questions correct. Mariah and Phoenix are next--we only hear two of their questions, but they only get one correct. The remaining pairs are Carmen and someone who is unnamed, Stacy and Alexis, Shangela and India, and finally Mimi and Yara. The winners are Phoenix and Mariah. The next challenge is to shoot scenes for the movie Drag Queens in Outer Space and the two winners pick teams.

Team Phoenix is made up of Delta, Phoenix, Raja, Manila, India and one more person I can’t figure out (one of the space twins) Oh ok, I finally got it. It is Carmen Carrera.

The girls go through a rehearsal with comments from their directors, Michelle Visage and special guest judge Alessandra Torresani, who is currently appearing as a cylon on the BSG prequel, Caprica. Phoenix is called out a lot for not looking at the camera and Delta doesn’t know her lines.

Team Mariah is made up of Mariah, Shangela, Mimi, Stacy, Alexis, and one more person I can’t figure out. I am sorry for this! There is just too many of them who look the same in drag and not enough interviews where they give them a nameplate. Ok, at the judging they give us nameplates, and the person I left out is Yara Sofia.

Mimi is completely over the top and frightening. Mariah is doing poorly at remembering her lines.

This space drama is completely bonkers and filled with weird sexual puns. The final cuts will premiere on the mainstage the following day, where the girls will be decked out in their finest space age couture. Lily Tomlin will be another guest judge, which the ladies are super excited about.

Ms. Rupaul greets us on the mainstage and looks just about as fabulous as ever. A vision in peach.

Yara Sofia is in a frightening lime green metallic number and has crazy hair. I hate her freaky contacts.

Raja is in a gold space number that brings up references of Star Wars.

India Ferrah is in a white body suit thing and her boobs are on full display. They don’t look very good.

Alexis Mateo wears a red jumpsuit thing with a big cape. Her hair is giant.

Stacy Layne Matthews is in a tight silver body suit. She is glad to be able to work the look for the judges.

Shangela has a red space suit inspired concoction.

Mimi Imfurst is frightening looking with a giant headdress and extra eyes as accessories.

Phoenix is in a tight body suit with a futuristic eyepiece and headpiece.

Carmen Carerra has a crazy hairpiece that looks like it is going to topple at any moment. Her outfit has led lights on it.

Mariah is wearing a black and white number that has nothing to do with space.

Delta Work wears a turquoise shiny dress, that doesn’t appear to be all that spaced themed either.

Manila Luzon wears a skin-tight black suit with yellow accents.

The judges critique their movies. The winning team is Team Mariah. Condragulations, you are safe! Shangela, Alexis and Mimi Imfurst are called out as the top three. Ru decides that there can be two winners today and Shangela and Alexis each win silicone breast plates. Every drag girl’s dream. Mimi is bitter that she didn’t win.

Team Phoenix is the losing team, and all they are all up for elimination (except Raja because she has immunity). Phoenix is called out as the weakest in the movie, and she did just sort of phone it in. India is praised for her look and Lily Tomlin says the word “bosoms”. For real! No one likes Carmen’s outfit, and her hair is falling off. Manila is told by Ms. Ru that she failed with her outfit. Delta Work is told that her character in the movie was good, but no one likes her simple outfit.

The bottom two today are Phoenix and Delta Work. They will have to…lip sync for their LIIIIIIIIIIIVES! They are lip syncing to Gaga’s “Bad Romance”. I just have no way to judge the lip syncing…I have absolutely no idea what makes it good or bad. If anyone who knows more about this could help me out, it would be much appreciated. Leave comments below! The other girls seem to think that Delta does a better job. Delta work is told to Shante, and Stay. Phoenix is asked to Sashay, Away.

More Fabulousness

  • It is shocking how unlikeable Mimi was in this episode. I liked her last week, but her terrible, over the top acting was unsavory. As was her ego.
  • This week I am also watching the Untucked episodes that air alongside the show. Basically, these are where the girls get drunk after the show and get into fights and stuff. Hilarious.
  • I am not too sad to see Phoenix go. She wasn’t very interesting and she was certainly among the least fabulous.
  • Last word is going to my sister, Taryn again: “You gotta be memorable. I already forget who that bitch was”.
