The Lexicon: "I'll Have a Vitamin Water Please"Posted by: April on Jun 8, 2011 |
|
The Lexicon: an occasional feature in which we identify movie/TV lines worth repeating.
Source: Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen), Gossip Girl, "Summer Kind of Wonderful" (S2, E1)
Usage: Awkward conversation ender. It's your new "end scene."
Sincere or sarcastic: Sincere. You sincerely want this conversation to end. Also, you'd sincerely like a Vitamin Water.
Product placement has a long and awkward history, but there's a big difference between passive product placement (say, characters just happen to be drinking Diet Coke) and active product placement (characters order a Diet Coke). Gossip Girl is a particularly egregious offender of the second order in many an episode, but perhaps never more spectacularly than than the season two opener in which the Party Everyone Ends Up At was a Vitamin Water White Party. Just to be clear: a white party that featured cocktails made from flavoured/coloured water. At one point, Jenny orders a Vitamin Water. Not one particular Vitmain Water type/flavour/colour. Any old bottle will do. And I kid you not, that's how the scene ends.
Sadly, the internet will not cough up the video, so I can't confirm 100% that Jenny was polite enough to say "please." Use it anyway, as it will increase the likeliness that you may get a Vitamin Water out of putting an awkward topic to rest. At the very least, you'll surely distract/confuse everyone else.
