It's sad to say, but The Ottawa Fringe Festival closes Sunday evening. This year really has been a great one with so many interesting shows to see. If you haven't yet gone fringing, it's still not too late come downtown and check out the festival. So what should a discerning Fringe goer catch on the last day of the festival? Some Fringe shows get a buzz early on and become the darlings of the festival. Those that receive the highest attendance (in their venue) over the first four performances win an extra "Best in Fest" show. Here is a link to the "Best in Fest" winners of 2010. These shows are performed at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and are always worth seeing. Some of them have a regular Sunday time slot as well, which means you can see a couple of these great shows in the same day.
Heart-Strings
There are plenty of quality shows to see before 9:30 p.m. Here are a couple more shows that I have enjoyed also playing on Sunday. Heart-Strings: This show written by Tanya Elchuk with original music by Amy Crnkovik deals with the trauma of love relationships in a playful but intelligent manner. The play is about the conflicted relationship between Elchuk and her heart (played by Crnkovik). It's a surreal fantasy with audience interaction. It's funny but has something to say as well. I really enjoyed this one. Check it out Sunday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Academic Hall (133 Seraphin-Marion) Purely Cabaret: Is theatre not really your thing? Then why not see a show that is all music. In Purely Cabaret, classically trained vocalist Lindsay Sutherland Boal and her pianist Elisabeth Scholtz perform the forbidden songs from "the tumultuous Weimar Republic." 5:00 p.m Sunday, June 21 at Academic Hall (133 Seraphin-Marion) There are plenty of other options as well. This is your last chance to catch some quality Fringe shows. At $10 per show (with the purchase of a $2 Fringe pin), you can really see a whole lot of entertaining theatre, dance, and music for a very reasonable price. Don't miss this great opportunity. It's time to go Fringing!
