Well Formed Data brings together a selection of works that are formally linked through their use of research aesthetics and the moving image. Weaving through many disparate topics of study and lines inquiry, the videos offer compelling examples of how the artistic research process is turned into form. We see the authors—several artists, a filmmaker and a curator—employing a variety of rhizomatic methodologies. They assume the role of the organic researcher, attempt investigative journalism, play with documentary tropes or perform as lecturers and storytellers.
Gallery 101 is located at 301 ½ Bank Street, 2nd Floor. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-5pm

ARTHENA - art & écodesign of Chelsea is proud to present the "Journey" series by Margit Hideg. Using mixed media, she creates her own world, where abstraction meets her interpretation of Nature. The body of work “Journey Series” is a "walking" documentary of how trees change their growth patterns, how they heal and learn to grow again. Blair Paul at Cube

Posted by April in out on the town , ottawa , art , almonte

Blair Paul“I am a walking recording device, constantly seeing, sensing, feeling what goes on around me.”    Blair Paul, 2009
Almonte artist Blair Paul is constantly On the Edge of Discovery.  His sensitive and perceptive artistic observations will be featured in a brilliant display of his work at Ottawa’s Cube Gallery, 7 Hamilton Ave. North, from Jan. 6-31, 2010.

This show, On The Edge of Discovery, will showcase Blair Paul’s “remarkable versatility which ranges from realism to minimalism, from landscape to abstraction,” according to Lillian  Michiko Blakey, president of the Ontario Society of Artists. “He has amazing technical expertise and skill in a variety of media, all of which captivate the viewer – the stark geometric contrasts in his drawings, the conceptual messages in his abstract paintings and the lush textures in his landscapes.”

Blair will also be launching his book, On the Edge of Discovery, at the Jan. 6 opening of his show at the Cube.  Collected Works will be selling books at the event.  Doors open at 7pm.
Blair has worked as both a professional fine artist and art educator at a number of prestigious institutions and designed and coordinated the Introduction to Fine Art Program at Algonquin College. He has had numerous exhibitions in Canada and abroad. His work is now held in many private and corporate collections world-wide.

On the Edge of Discovery opens at the Cube Gallery, 7 Hamilton Ave. N., on Jan. 6 and runs until Jan. 31.
