Michael Fassbender is my kind of robot

Posted by April in video , still don't care about aliens , robots , prometheus , hotties

There's a new promotional video out for Prometheus. It's a commercial for David, Michael Fassbender's character, who is apparently a robot that you can buy to do the shit you can't get your employees to do. Now, if I were a robot designer, I might make a robot that looks like Michael Fassbender.

Best ever dance hall tunesAt (Cult)ure we're in the business of producing written words, but that doesn't mean that we don't enjoy things like spoken words or words set to music or things that don't have words at all. So each week we'll bring you a small collection of non-written things that we enjoyed.

Best Podcast: Mike & Tom Eat Snacks, "Episode 52"

Mike and Tom have always made a point of not revealing the snack until they actually get around to eating it, so I'm not going to spoil the fun. Nor will I explain who Matty Ice is or what he does to deserve a two-person standing ovation. If these simple facts aren't enough to tempt you, well, laughter is the best medicine for whatever is the matter with you. Click. Listen. Laugh.

Best Podcast: On Being, "Roseanne Cash"

Maybe I was always predisposed to enjoy a podcast with Roseanne Cash. Hearing her talk about music and the particular angle of her father's back that she knew best were perhaps to be expected, but "mystery" and playing with an interactive table of elements? Now that's good stuff.

TAC Announces Pitch THIS! 2011

Posted by admin in video , submissions , ottawa , animation

The Ottawa International Animation Festival’s industry event TAC is now accepting proposals for its 2011 Pitch THIS! Program, presented by 9 Story Entertainment. This year’s event will be held at the Fairmont Château Laurier on September 21 and 22, the first two days of the Festival.

"Nothing beats pitching to industry execs in front of hundreds of people to bring the potential of your project quickly into focus! For us it was the confidence boost we needed to go after the opportunities that arose from attending TAC." - Warren Brown, Producer of BIGBOX SINGSONG (Pitch THIS! 2009)

Pitch THIS! gives two producers the opportunity to steal everybody’s attention by revealing their new project to everyone in the TAC audience, which includes over 350 potential buyers, financiers, partners and industry leaders. Two of the most promising ideas will be selected by the TAC committee for a chance to WOW the conference’s panel of broadcasters and industry leaders for 10 minutes. Both producers and audience members alike will receive valuable feedback from a panel of broadcasters.

AVAILABLE LIGHT SCREENING COLLECTIVE: CALL FOR CURATING PROPOSALS FOR THE AUTUMN 2010 - SUMMER 2011 SERIES

Available Light Screening Collective (AL for short) is an Ottawa, Ontario-based volunteer organization committed to curating and presenting experimental film and video artworks within the local community. From its inception in 1995 as a Super 8 production group, AL has functioned as a non-incorporated artists' collective, a democratic and flexible form of governance in keeping with the shifting character of the dynamic experimental media artworks it is dedicated to presenting.

Available Light Screening Collective is currently seeking written proposals for media arts curating projects for its 2010-2011 season. The series is scheduled to begin in September 2010 with most programs presented at our primary exhibition venue in Ottawa, Club SAW at Galerie SAW Gallery. Proposals for other venues in the region, including outdoor sites, will also be considered. A professional curator's honorarium, as well as individual artists' fees for each work screened, will be paid upon the successful completion of the project.
